An inexpensive and effective GPS loggerThis device is designed to transmit GPS data by Bluetooth or by USB cable to another device immediately for use in navigation software and also to store GPS information to be analysed later, e.g. For adding location information to photos (geotagging). It succeeds in both objectives.The GPS signal is rapidly acquired and checks out with trustworthy maps.
The log data is there when and if you need it. The shape and size of the device makes it easy to carry in a pocket or keep in a rucksack or camera bag. It's relatively difficult to move the switch accidentally, which can be a problem on such devices. The LEDs keep you informed about what is happening, though I find the ergonomics odd: to me it would make more sense if the lights flashed when things were not in spec and were continuo us when things were OK, thus the Bluetooth LED flashes when the signal is OK, the GPS light flashes when there is a GPS fix but is steady when the position is not fixed, the battery light is green while charging and goes off when the battery is fully charged.
Apparently it goes red when the battery is nearly flat but the battery life is so good, I haven't seen this yet!Rated 4 star rather than five star for three reasons:1) Ergonomics as above;2) Although the instructions are good by the standards of much far-eastern kit, someone unfamiliar with the underlying technology would probably be challenged to make the kit work to its full potential;3) The software supplied works OK but is not brilliant. There is very good free support software called bt747 that can easily be found on the web. To use the log file for geotagging, use bt747 to convert the log to GPX format and then use this in conjunction with free software called geotag.None of the above is a really serious flaw but as each area could be improved, it doesn't seem right to give the box full marks.When the device is used in conjunction with bt747 and geotag, it is a five star device for people who know how to use it. If you are not familiar with this sort of equipment, read up on the web, perhaps on the forums that deal with the software mentioned above. Once you are clear that a GPS logger of this sort is what you need, then the 747A+ is likely to deliver the results you want.
Is not great but do the job, is dificult to find one that check all boxesI Bought this product to check what my employees are doing on theirs work routes and to have an exactly idea of the times spent in every kind of job.I think the data collected must be around the same as others loggers in the market what makes the difference between loggers are the software and the price.So the software of this logger doesn't do everything that I want but does half reasonably well.1. SEEING THE ROUTES IN BIG PICTURE - after setting up well, I can download the data to my computer and see right away all the stops flagged in the maps and their routes in different colours. So for a general idea or a quick check if there isn't any big deviation on the routes this software is great.2. STATISTICS AND DATA INFO - If you want to collect the data to do some statistics of how long is taking to do this client or if the employee is taking to much time in this client or even if they are over speeding when they are driving, this software sucks! So if you want this info you have to spend a lot of your time digging there rolling your mouse over the route or checking starting points and ending points and calculate by your selfI have the well known 'trackstick pro' as well and in the big picture sucks but in the organization of the data is way better.
You have options on the data display that you can chose like stops, over speeding and others that will give you tables with all that info already sort out.3. PRICE - looks around the cheapest on the market.CONCLUSION:If you will use mostly to see the big picture of the routes that a someone is taking in a visual way this one looks good the price is around the best in the market and is about 1/4 of the price of the tracksticksIf you want some to do some statistics this is not the best choice. It's verry nice product and provide great set of features for it's priceThis is my 3rd GPS logger, I also own Gosget S1, Holux M241.
Ok, I suppose that the connection is successfull then.In that case, the typical issue is that the baud rate is defined incorrectly. I do not know what it has to be for your device. The typical value is 115200 for most devices, 38400 for some, 57600 for one case I've been made aware of.Even if 'nothing happens', parts of BT747 that are intially greyed out should become normal black (for example the panel with the GPS data) and Connect should change to Disconnect.If you see the GPS position appearing, then this means that you have a connection and there is another issue. I suppose that when you press connect it changes to disconnect.I also suppose that you do not get error messages other than a RXTX version mismatch in the 'Info' tab.Further I suppose that you are using the RXTX2.2pre launch method.To rule out issues with RXTX2.2 or any other RXTX used by BT747, I suggest that you try connecting to COM9 using a terminal program.
I do not know what Vista SP2 offers, but Windows XP still had Hyperterminal available. In there connect to COM9 using 115200, 8 bit, no parity, 1 stop bit, flux control should not matter. After connection you should see $GPRMC. And more sentences appearing. If you do not get it there, you'll not get them in BT747.Are you connecting to your device using bluetooth on your PC too?
I am not sure if the baudrate setting matters in that case but bluetooth configuration on PC seemed a bit trickier to me and I remember helping out a collegue once on configuring the bluetooth connection on his PC - he was unable to talk to his device (which was something else than a GPS) until I carefully reviewed his configuration and fixed it. That was my first and last confrontation with BT configuration on windows.
